We make all our furniture and most of the wood products in our small workshop here at Wilderness Wood.

Most of our goods are made from sweet chestnut, a very durable wood grown in our own coppices and from local Sussex oak. We also use some softwood from our wood or other forests managed for a sustainable yield. We do not use any tropical hardwoods.

We can design and make goods to order, and deliver locally and install if required. Do phone, email or call by to discuss your requirements.

Care of your garden furniture

The chestnut and oak goods will last for many years untreated and will weather to a silvery grey colour. Alternatively, treat with Danish oil or equivalent, (e.g. Liberon Garden Furniture Oil, clear,) which will give a darker colour, as if wet. (3 coats required, plus annual re-coating.) Or use light-coloured preservative woodstain such as Sadolin Classic (3 coats required, re-treatment after about 7 years).

To enhance the useful life of the furniture, keep off damp ground in winter months. Yearly soaking of the feet of tables and seats in a preservative such as Cuprinol Clear will enhance their lifespan.

Softwood items have been treated with a wood preservative.

Rainfall may wash out surface tannin and temporarily stain light surfaces such as stone patios. Please avoid standing furniture in such places where staining would be unwelcome until the furniture is well rainwashed.

Some splitting of round chestnut may occur, but this will not affect the strength of the item.

Deliveries
We only deliver in Sussex and parts of Kent.

(Using 1 person) up to 5 miles radius £12.00
Thereafter £1.80/mile radius up to a distance of 25 miles
Deliveries requiring two members of staff will be priced accordingly.

Payment
Payment in full or deposit required when order is placed. Cheques and most credit / debit cards accepted. Quantity discounts available on certain items.

Discount of 5% to Friends of Wilderness Wood.

Installations
We can install any of the fencing we supply plus chestnut garden constructions such as pergolas, trellis panels and rose arches to our design or to yours.
Installation charges will be based on site conditions and access, staff costs and delivery.
Prices include VAT at 17.5% (5% for firewood and charcoal).
