Camping
For a truly unique outdoor living experience spend the night under the canopy of the trees in one of our beautiful woodland glades, complete with fire-pit and cooking grill, shelter and rustic furniture.
About the campsites
All our sites have a fire-ring with cooking grill, picnic table and benches. Visit the campsite pages for more details:
- Hazel Grove
- Streamside
- Under Oak
- Woodglade
- The Horsebox (glamping)
Who can do a Wild Camp?
All the sites are suitable for groups of up to 12 people. The shelters will sleep 4, and you can pitch small tents. Streamside, Hazel Grove and Woodglade are about a third of a mile downhill from the car park and Barn, and Under Oak is about a quarter of a mile on the level from the car park. None are accessible by vehicle, although we can deliver your gear in our Landrover for £14 each way. Under 18s must be accompanied by at least one adult.
What do we get?
We’ll provide:
- a sack of charcoal or barbecue wood (you can buy more if you like)
- up to 10 litres of water
- written instructions and a map
- a voucher for 2 free hot drinks in the Barn to revive you in the morning
- up to 2 wheelbarrows
There’s a composting toilet at Woodglade and Streamside, and not too far from Hazel Grove. (It might sound obvious, but please note there's no running water or electricity down there!).
You can also book brunch, lunch or a local roast Sunday lunch in the Barn if you've had enough of roughing it. Click here for more information about the Barn café including opening hours.
How do we get there?
From the Barn we can provide Landrover transport for your equipment (not people) to within 50 metres of your site if pre-booked (£14 each way). Alternatively you can use wheelbarrows one way and we collect you afterwards (for the uphill return journey!) or you can use wheelbarrows both ways.
What should I bring?
Tents, sleeping bags, mats, warm clothes, waterproofs, torches, mobile phone, toilet paper etc. Cooking equipment, plates, mugs etc. (don’t forget your matches!).
Otherwise bring whatever you want to eat, but please try to bring as little packaged food as possible as we have no rubbish bins - so you'll need to take all your rubbish home with you.
Safety and behaviour
You’re entirely responsible for the safety and behaviour of yourself and your group. We’ll give you written instructions on the use of the fire site and on general woodland safety and behaviour, which you must abide by. You mustn’t light fires anywhere except in the fire pit. Out of consideration for wildlife and other neighbours we don’t allow radios or recorded music, and ask that you keep noise to a minimum. We run a zero waste site and have no rubbish bins. There are recycling bins at the entrance to the wood for glass bottles and cans, paper can be burnt and food waste handed to the Barn staff for composting. ALL other rubbish must be taken away with you and the site left as you found it. We reserve the right to make a charge for clearing any rubbish you leave at your site or elsewhere in the wood or for any damage to the shelter, fireplace, benches or general area.
When?
You can begin your Wild Camp between 5 and 6pm and finish between 8.30 and 10.00am. If you arrive after 6pm you may have to check in yourself – we’ll leave your equipment and a map at the Barn.
How much does it cost?
- £60 per site per night (5pm to 10am), which includes one bag of fuel; plus a £50 returnable deposit against damage.
- A one-off admission fee to the Wood £4.95 per adult, £3.10 per child and £15.25 for a family of 2 adults and 2 children.
- Landrover transport (pre-booked) if wished – £15 each way.
- Extra fuel: Firewood £6.50 per sack, local charcoal £6.50 per bag.
- More than one night: if you're staying more than one night, you’ll also need to book the daytime Wild Cookout slot (10.30am-4.30pm) between the two nights - this costs £37.50
How do I book and pay?
Call us on 01825 830 509 to check availability first and guarantee your date with payment by card, and then complete this booking form. Admission charges are payable on arrival.
The Horsebox is booked via Canopy and Stars only.
Cancellation policy
We can’t refund Wild Camps if you cancel within two weeks of your booked date. Cancellations made more than two weeks in advance will be refunded, less a £10 admin charge.
If you’d like a taste of the outdoor life but don’t want to stay overnight, why not book a Wild Cookout in one of our glades?
