Groups & Parties
The wood is a wonderful venue for parties and gatherings – from children’s birthday parties to anniversaries, reunions or weddings. We can help you design your perfect day from a huge list of activities and provide delicious food and drink to fuel the festivities!
Explore the trails or book an activity with an enthusiastic and experienced ranger – see the parties menu.
Enjoy a woodland barbecue or wild cookout as part of your visit or relax and let us cater for you with delicious sustainably sourced food and drink from our Barn Kitchen.
Activities, walks and demonstrations can be run every day, usually starting at 11.00am or 2.00pm. A prompt start is essential – make sure party guests or members of your group arrive in good time.
Prices for guided walks and activities include admission so you can stay as long as you like before and afterwards.
All activities are outdoors in the woods, so dress appropriately! We normally continue in all weathers - phone us if exceptionally bad weather is forecast.
"Thank you for the terrific party you created for Jacob (10) and his friends last weekend - several of them said it was the best party they'd ever been to, and he loved it. We will be back!"

Guided walks and demonstrations
Our guided walks and demonstrations with in-house experts provide a unique and personal insight into ways of the wood.
These sessions last about 1¼ hours, covering up ¾ mile, or the ¼ mile path for the less mobile. If it’s very wet, we can give a talk and demonstration in the barn. Price includes admission, so you can stay as long as you like before and after your guided walk.
Choose from
- “About Wilderness Wood” – find out how the wood ticks from the people that run it – including its history, wildlife and how we grow wood. Can include a demonstration – have a go yourselves!
- “Poison, glue and magic” – peculiar and interesting old uses of plants. Especially good at bluebell time (April/May).
- “Woodland fungi – death or dinner?” (Sept/Oct). Look into the amazing world of toadstools, with Anne Yarrow.
£135 per group of up to 20 people, including admission
Explore on your own
Want to do your own thing? Follow the signed ¾ mile woodland trail or the ¼ mile easy-access path with leaflets about the woodland and activities and spotters for children – or just wander where the mood takes you. For a seasonal focus you can enjoy the bluebell walk in April/May, folklore trail in June-Aug, and chestnut trail in October.

"I would like to say a huge thank-you to everyone at Wilderness Wood, especially our fabulous Ranger Ed for my son's wonderful Castaway party yesterday, a truly amazing time was had by all!"
Kelly Bennett, spring 2013
"We had the best birthday party a 5 year old could wish for with you. A gruffalo hunt in the woods with 12 school friends and lunch in the barn. Everything was perfect, from staff to food. Thank you so much, you made his day :)"
Lorna Poyntz, winter 2012
"Thanks for all your help with organising and hosting our Birthday Party . We and our guests had a fun and relaxing time in the beautiful surroundings of Wilderness Wood... The venue worked beautifully, both children and adults were able to relax and have fun, the children in the play park or woods and the adults round the BBQ ( and some were tempted by the play park too !!). We had a wonderful evening surrounded by good friends and family and has given us happy memories to look back on".
Sarah and Karl Brydon, summer 2012
"Thank you for a very successful party today. The ranger was excellent and the food was just as I had hoped it would be. Everyone enjoyed it very much and we will certainly return again!"
Elizabeth, summer 2012
"Just wanted to say a big" thank you!" for a wonderful Castaway birthday party
...Ed was a very skilled leader, relaxed and yet in complete control of the boys. Everyone had lots of fun and learnt new skills. The boys have all been saying it was "awesome!". Thank you very much, Ed, and Wilderness Wood. My deskbound husband was so inspired. He began building dens with the children next day. A real antidote to 21st century life".
Lois Woodhouse, summer 2012
"Thank you very much for a great party. All the children really loved it.
Joe was excellent, he ran the party very efficiently and was friendly and
professional. It was definitely the best birthday party we've done! Thanks
again."
Jo Clark, spring 2012
"Just wanted to say another another huge thank you for making Asher's birthday so wonderful. This is the third time we've held his birthday at WW, and they just keep getting better and better. All the kids had a great time and the group leader was fantastic!!"
