Wilderness Wood is open every day of
the year and there are many special events as shown below.
For most events, booking is essential. The details of each event tell you if you need to book. For events where there is no need to book, just come to the wood during the advertised time. If you would like to come to a bookable event, please first call to check availability during office hours as places are strictly limited. Make your booking over the phone or call in to the wood. Please pay at the time of booking - either by credit card over the phone, by credit card, cash or cheque in person, or by posting a cheque made payable to "Wilderness Wood" to Wilderness Wood, Hadlow Down, Near Uckfield, East Sussex TN22 4HJ. Places are not reserved until payment is received. Cancellations: no refund given within two weeks of the event. A £5 admin fee will be charged if cancelled earlier. We normally continue in ALL weather conditions, but may cancel on the day in the event of exceptionally bad weather, with full refund. Prices for all events include admission to the wood. Our new interactive trail, now extended until the end of July.
Learn about the folklore and legends of trees, plants and woodlands - see Wilderness Wood with new eyes! Out in the wood you can spot fairy gardens and shelters, strange clay faces on tree trunks and dreamcatchers fluttering from branches - and make your own. You can add to the growing gallery in the barn of charcoal drawings and poems, created by visitors of all ages from 4 year olds to "oldies"!

exploration, identification and art, with Lyn Merrick. Hunting for
creatures, identifying them using keys and computer software and
finding out what is special about them. Dissecting owl pellets,
making casts of animal prints and creating graphs, paintings and
models of your discoveries to take home. Woodland fungi Anne will be leading a selection of fungus hunting
walks in autumn – details to follow. Seed gathering Sunday. Walk in the woods and gather tree seeds to identify, take home and plant. Part of the Tree Council’s Seed Gathering Season. Chestnut celebration Gather and learn about sweet chestnuts on a special walk through the ancient coppice woodland. Try roast chestnuts, chestnut soup and chestnut cake. Usual admission prices. Throughout October 10am - 5pm Coppice skills A beginners guide to the craft of coppicing. Learn to cut down poles to make fence stakes, roof shingles and other woodland products using hand tools.
