Seasonal treats

Special trails through the ancient woodland allow you to find its magical corners.   Amazing springtime bluebells, the enchantment of Forest Folklore,  the autumn harvest of the Chestnut Trail and Fungus Hunts, and the delights of Christmas.   

 

 

 

 

 

 

 

 

 

Forest Folklore Trail 

Explore our interactive trail around the ancient woods and discover the folklore of trees and plants. Find out how artists and poets have responded to the beauty and wildness of the woods. Take inspiration from what you find, write your own poem for our competition, and enjoy messing about with charcoal drawing, sculpture and leaf collage as you make your way round the mile-long trail.

Seed Gathering Sunday

Walk in the woods and gather tree seed to identify, take home and plant.  Part of the Tree Council's Seed Gathering Season.

Chestnut celebration

Enjoy an autumn ramble through ancient chestnut coppice.  Discover the history and uses of the sweet chestnut and gather a few to take home and roast....

The barn will be serving chestnut soup and chestnut cakes throughout the season, and there will be an opportunity to try your hand at working with sweet chestnut wood.

Christmas

Find the perfect tree and the decorations and gifts to match. 

Reserve and cut your own from our plantation within the wood or choose from hundreds of locally sourced ready cut trees in the yard.

Warm up in the barn with hot soups, drinks, and mince pies warmed on the log stoves and do a little Christmas shopping.

Bluebell walk

Enjoy the best of the spring flowers with special trails through the ancient woodland.

Starry white wood anemones, swathes of bluebells and golden celandines,  with the bright green of spring leaves opening overhead. 

Walks are roughly a mile, half a mile or a quarter of a mile. 

Mid-April - mid May, depending on season.
