School visits to Wilderness Wood

Sussex is one of the most wooded parts of England.  We help you to take advantage of this local resource to enrich and enliven the curriculum and stimulate learning.

We are well geared to school visits, with teaching materials and knowledgeable and experienced staff who will create a tailor-made visit for your class.    The wood is a marvellous resource for all age-groups, from Reception to A-Level.

  • TEACHERS' PACKS for KS1, KS2, Secondary levels, booking details, maps, background information, activities and worksheets.  All the information you need is in these packs.

  • Topic packages to plan your day around specific topics commonly studied at Wilderness Wood.

  • Guided walks and woodland activities are adapted to your age group and topic, covering anything from the seasons, minibeasts, wood as a material, plant growth or the Victorians to A-Level geography or biology. Shelter building activities are very popular.

  • Hands-on demonstrations of tuning a pole into a wood product.

  • Good disabled access, including “easy-access” trail.

  • Picnic area, adventure play area, souvenirs, toilets, coach parking, full insurance.

  • Risk assessment forms available in each teachers pack.

  • Plenty of shelter in and around the barn.

  • Free pre-visits for teachers.

  • There is also a separate maths trail with enough activities to last a whole day.       Please ask to be emailed a copy.
