OPENING TIMES  

The wood is open daily all the year round, from 10 am until 5.30pm or dusk if dusk is earlier. During December (Christmas tree time) we are open from 9am - 6pm, seven days a week.

ADMISSION CHARGES 
There are no admission charges if you are simply purchasing goods or visiting the tearoom.  Charges relate to visits to the rest of the wood - walks, picnics, BBQs etc.

GENERAL INFORMATION:

Dogs are allowed if strictly controlled.  The paths are generally well-drained and not too rough, but there are quite a lot of steps (none on the Easy-Access Path).  Boots are advisable after wet weather. Please take away your picnic and barbecue rubbish.  There are recycling bins at the entrance to the wood.

ENJOY A WOODLAND BBQ

 

Three BBQ stands are available near the car park. If you would like to have a BBQ at the bottom of the wood, click Wild Cookout.

 

  • Upper BBQ                 - grill 120cm x 60cm.  Near play area.

  • Lower brick BBQ         - grill 120cm x 60cm.  Grassy area, with view.

  • Lower West BBQ        - grill 100cm x 50cm.  Grassy, secluded.

You can book one or more of the following time slots:

  • 0.30 am - 2.00 pm

  • 2.30 pm - 5.00 pm

  • 5.30 pm - 8.00 pm

You are welcome to stay in the wood outside your BBQ slot, but are asked to vacate the BBQ and nearby tables by your finish time.

 

BBQ charges:

  • £10.50 per stand per time slot including 1 bag of fuel

  • Plus normal admission charges

  • Extra barbecue firewood £6.00 per 50l. sack of firewood, £5.90 per 3kg. sack of local charcoal.

  • £5.00 lighting charge (if required)

DISABLED PROVISION:

The barn (with refreshments, shop, exhibition), picnic places, tea garden and the yard area are accessible to wheelchairs.  There is a cubicle for disabled people in the ladies WC. A ¼ mile easy-access path includes bluebells and viewpoint, and although the path has no steep gradient or steps, it is quite rough and a strong pusher is needed.

HOW TO FIND US: 

 

We are in Hadlow Down village on the south side of the main A272 road, 5 miles north-east of Uckfield.

 

From the east, leave the A267 between Five Ashes and Cross-in-Hand, turning west onto the A272.

 

From the west, leave the  A22 Uckfield bypass at Black Down roundabout and join the A26 north.  At the next roundabout (Budletts), carefully follow signs for the A272 / Heathfield.

 

Your satnav. may direct you somewhere to the west of our entrance. We are on the south side of the main A272, about 300 yards east of the New Inn (i.e. in the direction of Heathfield).
