Litter Policy

There aren’t any bins at Wilderness Wood

Why not? We try to be as environmentally-friendly as possible in everything we do. Sending rubbish to landfill wastes valuable resources & causes a range of environmental problems, including the production of methane (a very strong greenhouse gas) which contributes to climate change.

To avoid these problems we:

  • Reduce the amount of waste we produce (together the house, office, workshop, kitchen and café fill just 1 wheelie bin per week)
  • Reuse & repair things whenever possible
  • Recycle (or compost) whatever we can

What should I do with my rubbish at the wood?

Rather than providing bins, we ask you to take responsibility for your own rubbish:

  • Bring unwrapped food whenever possible
  • Re-use containers (e.g. water bottles & plastic tubs)
  • Recycle glass bottles, cans and foil in the bins at the wood entrance
  • Bring paper and cardboard to the Barn to burn in the woodstove
  • Bring food waste to the kitchen for composting
  • Hand back any packaging we sell you (e.g. lolly or crisp wrappers)

Please take home anything you don’t recycle, and help us keep the wood pristine by picking up any litter you see

Thank you for your help
